This will hopefully be a collection of books I've read while here, restaurants I've eaten at that I liked and side trips I've taken. For those places I travel with a series of pictures, I'll post them on my "Photo Journal" page with a description of the site/trip.
Books I've Read
Steinbeck, "Of Mice and Men"
T.S Eliot, "Murder in the Cathedral"
J.D Salinger, "Catcher in the Rye"
Jim Lynch, "The Highest Tide"
Elizabeth Rosner, "Blue Nude"
Ernest J. Graines, "A Lesson Before Dying"(current)
Placencia Village Restaurants
The Secret Garden - Good outdoor place off Main St. Good Lunch menu ($10US); nice friendly owner and staff. There is also a massage and spa at same location. Owner is from Reno; here four years.
De Tatch. Excellent food and service. An outdoor cabana on the beach next to the SeaSpray Motel. I had a delicious Coconut Curry Snapper ($17.50US. )
Dawn's. Excellent all round menu, opens at 5:30 pm most days. Cheerful staff. An outdoor cabana style place on Main St. Dawn makes her own hot sauce!
Places to Stay
I asked my landlady for a couple of recommendations:
"I like to stay at Miss Janice Leslies place Tradewinds. It is the best
you can get for the money although it is not cheap, it is about 65US a
night. It is right on the beach and really peaceful. Next would be Seaspray hotel, less expensive but very busy and not so private. Harry’s Cozy cabanas down by us was really great but poor Mr Harry passed away
and I do not know if it is in operation now."
Lydia's Place. Walking north on the Boardwalk about what feels like a mile, is a lovely place a short walk to a beautiful beach with great view of the beach. It's a little further out from the Village hence, it offers a little more privacy.. My friend Heather stayed here in a Belize styled home that has two main buildings. The one she stayed in had 4 rooms and two shared bathrooms. For her time here she paid about $26-$28/night. The other building has private bathrooms and a shared kitchen. Perfect little place for those who want a little more privacy, it felt like a safer place,
Thank you for the information, especially the Places to Stay. I look forward to making my way down there from Franks Eddy Village sometime soon. ~Bernice
