Imagine...
You ride your bike back from the village down a dirt road toward the westward tip of the Placencia Pennisula. You just finished breakfast or had a cup of java at a local cafe, read a few chapters in your book for the week, checked you email, and chatted with some now familiar friends.
To your left are some vacation homes nestled in amongst the palm trees. Past these homes another 50 or so feet is the ocean. A pleasant breeze is swaying the palm tree branches and the breeze feels like it has for weeks, soft and caressing. The white sand is more inviting than the white snow of the winter you just left back in the states. Another day in Paradise.
You lean your bike against a palm tree on the right side of the road, untie your rowboat and row (or scull) your way about 60 feet to the other side of the canal where your dock is located. As you are crossing the canal, you look once more for signs of a crocodile people say swim these waters. "Nope, no sign of him today", you say to yourself. The creature is elusive. You muse whether you will one day be his fresh meat for the day!
Stepping ashore you are looking north down a pathway lined with more palm trees and mango trees. It's a pretty sight, with the bright blue of you small bungalow that is your piece of paradise for a year. No TV to allow the outside world to intrude on your peace and solitude.
There is plenty to do, but today will be a day devoted to writing. Tomorrow you'll take the Water Taxi across the bay to Independence to renew your Tourist Card for another month. Life is no rush for you. Next week you'll take a trip snorkeling and be inspired by the beauty of such color and uniqueness underwater.
You get a phone call. One of your new friends wants to meet up for dinner at the De Tatch, an outdoor seafood restaurant up the canal on the ocean side.
Life is good...one day at a time.
It does sound like Paradise. ~Bernice
